Sponsorships for medical students from LSU Health Sciences Centers in New Orleans and
Shreveport, and
Tulane Medical School for elective preceptorship rotations
Students earn clinical experience with
physician/preceptors in primary care in rural or underserved ambulatory
settings
First through fourth year medical
students shadow primary care physicians, inclusive of Family Medicine,
Internal Medicine, OB-GYN,
General Practice, and Pediatrics

Rural Scholars Program
Equips and
encourages talented, high-achieving pre-med students from rural
communities to make application to LSU Health Sciences Center School of
Medicine in Shreveport and ultimately become primary care physicians in
rural Louisiana
Students
selected to participate have hands-on opportunities to learn about medical
school from medical school faculty and staff during a series of retreats
Students
learn about MCAT review, financial aid, the application process, and
interview techniques
Medical
student and community primary care physician mentors provide guidance,
encouragement and clinical exposure
