A Day with the Doctors

Gives interested high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to spend a day at the Medical School

Students develop a medical problem list, work with actualcadaver specimens and microscope slides, learn to use basic patient assessment equipment and interact one-on-one with medical professionals

CLAHEC sponsors two annual programs to visit LSU Health Science Centers in New Orleans and Shreveport

  • One page essay on why you feel you are a good candidate for the program

A-HEC of a Summer

Volunteer health careers program is open to entering tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade students with at least a 2.0 (C) grade point average
During a five-week period students rotate through hospital departments, attend  workshops and field trips

Students earn 1/2 unit of high school credit

 

 

  To apply, return the following:

  • Completed application by March 3, 2010.

  • Letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or principal

  • Personal essay on why you are interested in the program

  • Current transcript

Nurse Camp

 

  Louisiana College in partnership with Central LA AHEC offers Nurse Camp to high school juniors and seniors interested in exploring nursing as a career.  Nurse Camp is a three-day, interactive program in which students learn diagnostic skills, CPR, and educational requirements for a degree in nursing

  Students will tour local hospitals and interact with nurses from different specialty areas and LA College nursing faculty, students and graduates 

 The next program will be held June 7-9, 2010 on the LA College campus.

CI: Healthcare

 

  CI: Healthcare is an activity-filled day that offers high school students who have an interest in health careers an opportunity to explore Nursing and Allied Health careers at Our Lady of the Lake College’s Health Career Institute in Baton Rouge and at LSU-Alexandria’s A.C. Buchanan III Allied Health Education Building in Alexandria. 

 Applicant must be a high school junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

 The program will be held January 5, 2010 at the  Health Career Institute at Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and on January 8, 2010 at LSU-Alexandria’s A.C. Buchanan III Allied Health Education Building in Alexandria, Louisiana.

 To apply, return the following:

  • Completed application by December 7, 2009.

  • Current transcript signed by your counselor

  • Letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or school nurse

  • An essay describing why you should be considered for this program and what you would like to learn by participating in this program.
