In many rural and underserved areas of Louisiana, the shortage of primary care doctors is acute. In an effort to address the health care professional shortages in its seventeen parish service area, Central Louisiana AHEC promotes programs for clinical students that expose them to hands-on primary care. These programs enable medical students from LSU Health Shreveport and New Orleans and Tulane School of Medicine to experience primary care medicine in rural and underserved communities in hopes they will discover the benefits and rewards of this type of practice.
